Test Proctoring Policy
To meet the needs of students and institutions of higher learning, the Reference Department of the Champaign County Library offers proctoring services. This service is based on the availability of personnel, facilities, and technology.
Student Responsibilities
The student must make arrangements with the Reference staff to provide proctoring services at least 48 hours in advance of taking the exam. Exams will not be proctored on a drop-in basis. Exams must be completed at least 30 minutes prior to library closing.
Exams will be proctored only during regular hours of library operation.
The student must make arrangements with his/her institution to ensure that the exam and instructions arrive at the library at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled exam time. The student must also confirm with the library that the library has received the exam and instructions at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled exam time.
If the test is to be taken online, the student is responsible for making sure computing resources are adequate for the test.
Reference staff cannot interpret test instructions for the student nor assist in technical matters for an online test. The library does not allow the installation of any software on library computers that may be needed to complete the exam.
The student must provide a valid school ID, driver’s license, or other photo ID (if required) for verification of identity or the test will not be proctored.
The student must provide the necessary or required supplies to take the exam.
Library and Staff Responsibilities
The Reference Department staff can receive exams and instructions via U.S. mail or email, sent to the following address:

Reference staff will proctor the exam. A signature agreeing to serve as a proctor does not guarantee that the specific library staff will serve as the actual proctor. In general, the Reference staff working the Reference Desk when the test is scheduled to be taken will serve as test proctor.
The library cannot guarantee a quiet place or continuous monitoring throughout the exam. The student will be provided a place to take the exam (generally a study room) and the proctor will check on the student periodically. Library service takes priority over proctoring.
If a shift change occurs at the Reference Desk, monitoring responsibilities will be transferred to the next reference staff person.
The library staff member proctoring will not sign the name of another staff member on a proctoring form or exam. The library will not proctor an exam for which the signature of only one designated person is required.
Library staff will not sign any statement required by the educational institution inconsistent with our procedures or with how the test is administered.
Library staff may refuse to proctor an exam too burdensome or exacting in its demands.
The library is not responsible if the institution or library’s website, email, or internet access is not working.
The library is not responsible for exams that are lost by the postal system or electronically.
The library will discard tests that have not been taken or rescheduled 30 days past the test date.
The library will not keep copies of completed exams.
The library reserves the right to deny this service. The library also reserves the right to cancel or change a test date due to inclement weather, computer malfunctions, etc.
While there is no fee for this service, the library also will incur no expense for the exam. All expenses (supplies, postage, etc) are the responsibility of the student and/or testing institution.
