Getting a Library Card

Patrons may apply for library cards in person for full library privileges or online for access to only online materials.

Adult registrations are completed for patrons at least eighteen years of age by providing:

  • Name, telephone number, birthdate
  • Picture ID with current address or ID plus additional verification of address.
  • Alternate identification number – driver’s license number or last 4 digits of social security number.

College students completing registrations must give both their home and school addresses and provide appropriate ID.

Juvenile registrations are completed for patrons under eighteen.

Parents or guardians signing a juvenile registration must provide:

  • Picture ID with current address or ID plus additional verification of address. 

Patrons may check out 10 items the first time.  After 30 days, patrons are limited to fifty items on their card at one time.

Patrons over the age of 18 may check out DVDs

First library cards are free.  Replacement cards are $1.00.

Patrons may request the Champaign County Library retain their personal loan history with the understanding these records are governed by the Policy for Securing Confidential Personal Information and the Confidentiality of Circulation Records Policy

Upon issuance of a library card, the patron agrees to abide by the library’s policies.  Failure to do so may result in suspension of borrowing privileges.
